Heather Kidd
Founder/Lead Teacher
Miss Heather holds Earthsong Farm Camp each summer simply because she fell in love with the dear Deck Family and their beautiful farmland while teaching their youngest children nearly a decade ago. Nothing brings her joy as consistently as walking this lovely acreage with a tangle of children in tow. Watching their little bodies relax into the simple rhythm of farm life while discovering the wonders of nature, where they all can witness the goodness, beauty, and truth in our world first hand.
Miss Heather has been teaching children her entire life! She substituted, summer camped and nannied her way through a Master of Fine Art’s Degree in Theatrical Design at Tulane University in New Orleans as well as the Americorp Casa Verde Builders in Austin, Texas. She finished her Waldorf Teacher Training in both early childhood (ages 0-7) and grades (ages 7-14) education at Waldorf Teacher Education Eugene in 2011. She has a special passion for experiencing, exploring and sharing all the natural elements with children. She loves to sing, dance, and craft in work and play. Miss Heather has recently moved back across the country to Oregon to expand Earthsong children’s programs at the Deck Family Farm! She has taught early childhood and grades classes in certified Waldorf Schools in both Oregon and New York for well over a decade. She founded Earthsong Farm School alongside the Deck Family (2010) as well as Earthsong Farm Camp (2012). Miss Heather is thrilled for the opportunity to expand Earthsong - returning to the warmth and magic of the Deck Family Farm with children through so many seasonal offerings!
Assistant Teachers
Sarah Hilvert
Miss Sarah has Waldorf teaching certificates in both early childhood and grades education, and taught for three years at the Eugene Waldorf School. She also has a bachelors degree in biology, inspired by a fascination for the stories the living world has to tell us. She seeks out these stories in forests, rivers, farms, and coastline, and enjoys telling old and new tales alike.
She has lived in beautiful Oregon for eight years, forming relationships with the humans, wildlife, and spiritual beings that share our community. She has taught outdoor school programs through Whole Earth Nature School, Nearby Nature, and Little Dove Summer Care. Miss Sarah’s teaching is full of reverence for the beautiful and patience for what is slow. She finds joy in singing, crafting, learning, and rhythmic work. Earthsong Farm School is excited to have Sarah assist the full week of Summer Farm Camp this year!
Ella Ewing (formerly Deck)
Ella spent half her childhood growing up on the Deck Family Farm. She is an alumni of both the Eugene and Berkley Waldorf Schools. She currently resides across the apple orchard from the main house on the farm with her husband and elementary aged daughter, Lilli. Ella has revived Earthsong Farm School seasonal offerings during the past few years with parent/ child programs and family gatherings on the farm. She has homeschooled her daughter and niece with curriculum and ideas based in Rudolf Steiner’s Waldorf Education. She founded the current CSA Deck Family Farm program and regularly cares for the farm’s land, gardens and animals. She has a passion for playing fiddle music, contra dance and goats! She helps to prepare for and often participates in Earthsong Summer Farm Camp and other offerings - leading specific projects and assisting as needed.
